Where the System Ends, CAA Begins. We Built the College We Couldn't Find. CAA Story #17: Student Brighid
CAA Student Brighid Helped Launch a New Class on Mental Health Support
Brighid has been a CAA student for the past six years and was instrumental in the founding of CAA’s popular You Are Not Alone (YANA) group.
Growing up autistic, Brighid was often misunderstood and felt different than some of her peers. As she got older, she dealt with bullying in High School which led her to wanting to create a space where students felt safe and accepted.
Brighid enrolled in CAA after High School and even though she didn’t know how to use PowerPoint, she taught herself and created a presentation about why CAA should adopt a new club You Are Not Alone.
The club was started by popular YouTuber Jessii Vee who encouraged people to check in on each other and help friends when they were having bad days.
What began as a recreational club has now blossomed into one of CAA’s most popular classes and has even gained the attention of Jessii Vee herself. The influencer has sent several messages to CAA’s students telling them how impressed she has been with all their efforts.
When Brighid is not in the YANA class, she loves to draw, sing, dance and perform in the CAA cheer squad.
Her father Jim has said that the school has been a wonderful creative outlet and also helped to boost her confidence and give her new opportunities.
Brighid loves all things pop culture, but especially music, movies and drawing. Her dream is to one day become a famous singer.
“CAA really helps adults with disabilities learn,” said Brighid. “It is a great, safe place.”
Brighid is prominently featured in the latest professional video that was produced for our college in-kind in 2025 by a professional film studio, Hummingbird Content Studio:
