On January 9th, 2019, I attended my first day of college at College of Adaptive Arts. I was shy during the first week, then I slowly started making friends and meeting the staff. At first I thought, ‘Am I going to be judged on my disability here at CAA?’ Before I went to CAA, I attended Gavilan college where I joined the career prep program. This experience was both good and bad. I had a good educational experience, but did not always feel listened to. That changed when I left Gavilan College to find a better program that could fit my personal and educational needs.

As a new Cardinal, I began to come out of my shell and had great interactions with staff members like Executive Director Deanna Pursai, Dr. Pamela Lindsay, and our Library Arts Director, Suzanne Williams. But the two staff members that I thought I would be able to get along with the most and learn from were: Professor Roland Schmidt and Professor Angel Gonzalez.

Because this is a non-judgmental program, and the staff treats everyone the way they should be treated, my experience at the school is that much better compared to my prior schooling. I am proud to be a Cardinal and love attending my college.
